Ayton 2014 – Grenouisse Ascendant

Postby battleeditor » Tue May 07, 2013 10:03 am

Easrly spring, 1748. Stymied in its over-zealous attempts at colonising Byzarbia the previous autumn, King Raoul of Grenouisse licks his wounds, but takes comfort in the new streams -- no, rivers -- of revenue reaching his coffers as a result of acquiring the ports of Granprix, now reduced to a province of Greater Grenouisse.

The neighbouring states of Faltenland, Gelderstaad and Schwitz now look on alarmed at these developments, and mighty Prunkland sees the sudden increase in shipbuilding, adding to what had been little Granprix's already sturdy navy. Even distant Albion, which provided many mercenaries on both sides in the recent wars, is troubled by what it sees as a possible threat to its access to its distant colonies.

The corridors of power in Europa are awash with rumour, as King Raoul tours his newly acquired province under heavy guard and is met with stony silence. His appointments of military governors and lackey mayors send shivers of revulsion through the population. Letters to his neighbours are answered with diplomatic niceties, but little else.

Trouble, it seems, is afoot. Time to write to the Czar of Borscht and Elector of Schmeissberg-Donau. Time to find some friends.

In the mountains north of Castell Sebastian, a campfire burns, its flickering flames illuminating the surrounding trees and the scarred faces of a dozen determined men.

Pedro L'homequemenjapeixcru gives his small knife one last strop on the leather belt and feels the keen edge, before spitting on the blade and starting a slow, leisurely shave of the severed head in his lap.

"Thees man," he drawls, "was an hexploring offeecer from the frog king. Eet ees very himportant, my friends" –- he pauses to look around the circle of faces, making sure that every man knows he has been measured in the balance of his swift and deadly justice --"that thees evil hombre knows nothing of our plans".

Satisfied with his work, Pedro wipes the blade carefully with a silk kerchief, which he then tucks into the sleeve of his robes before setting the head carefully atop the spreadeagled corpse. He stands slowly, returns the knife to its sheath hidden in a secret pocket in his cassock, and makes the sign of the cross.

"Go with God, my friends." He strides to his horse as the semi-circle of partizans make their obeisances, mounts expertly, rears his black stallion and gallops away until he is lost in shimmering moonlight.

And that, folks, is all you get for the time being -- MW362 to get to the printers on Friday!

"Pedro" be buggered - that's just a coy way of telling us what Henry spent his bank holiday weekend doing.

Ace!
I'm going to bring a new brigade this year, I've already sourced all the figures and worked out my regiment and character names this morning whilst I was supposed to be working. :)

Or even the marquis De Salad in Purps case...

I have the dates pencilled and am deciding on what troops to paint up, the Spanish Tercio Viejo de la Armada de la Mar Oceana is currently favourite.

Fredd, not pencilled in, but booked and confirmed man, booked and confirmed.

Very taken by your ACW castings by the way, Norm had some and they are very nice indeed.

His Grace the Duke of Braunschweig, who is no doubt persona non grata in Grenouisse, and currently enjoying his luxurious villa in sunny Byzarbia, is concerned that his estates in Europe are being ravaged by the oily and unloved King Raoul and his minions. In response to many letters and entreaties from those subjects, now in hiding in the mountains of his former homeland, he has commenced raising his own forces, funded by his spoils and loot from the successful Byzarbian campaign, and the revenue from his lucrative trade in elephants foot umbrella stands to the aristocracy of Albion, and his side line in the sale of "burnt crispy bits" to the eating houses of Albion's capital city, fortunately the battle of Byzarbia provided a plentiful supply of these culinary delicacies. His old school chum the ruler of Byzarbia, is interceding on his behalf, with Duke Zigor, and he has offered his sword and a substantial force, to return to the continent and help in ousting Raoul and returning the gallant Granprix to it's rightful ruler, at "friend's prices" of course. Raoul should really have paid him for his services in the late unpleasantness.
In other news the Braunschweig Cricket team are enjoying another stellar season in the Byzarbian Premier League, and are currently beating the Dheli Bheli XI by 200 runs.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We shall be victorious.

I know Ayton is booked and confirmed, however I have to make sure I am not double booked, which has been the issue the last 2 years, and the year before that it happened in the middle of moving house.

Thank you on the figures, we are very fond of them, both the ACWs and the Colonials.

Even better news on the cricket, I thought the Rajkot Elephant Riders would be unbeatable this season.

Grenouisse may come to regret awakening the ire of the Nottoman Empire... emissaries from Byzarbia are even now speeding to the Empire's substantial European territories in the Penelopes and the Bollockans.

Oh good, all those weird foreign names are back again - I can never remember whose side I’m on. How about just calling them army 'A' and army 'B'?

What? :|
